U12s March Into the Quarter Finals as U16s Make it Two From Two

David Pike2 Jul - 06:54

Frenford's flagship junior sides keep flying the flag as the U12s reach the Brian Taylor Cup quarter-finals and the U16s stay unbeaten

It was another outstanding weekend for Frenford's county representative junior sides, with both the U12 Brian Taylor Cup XI and U16 TB Matchplay Trophy XI delivering impressive performances to continue their respective Essex-wide campaigns.

Played under glorious sunshine and soaring temperatures, both teams demonstrated the resilience, discipline and character that continue to define Frenford's junior pathway, with excellent individual performances backed by outstanding team displays.

U16 TB Matchplay Trophy XI Continue Winning Start

Frenford's U16 TB Matchplay Trophy XI made it two wins from two with an impressive all-round performance against Gidea Park & Romford CC at Frenford HQ.

On one of the hottest days of the season, captain Adam won the toss and elected to bat first on an excellent wicket. However, despite ideal batting conditions, the innings never quite found the fluency the team would have hoped for. A combination of lethargy, something that affected several FCC sides over the weekend, and regular wickets meant Frenford struggled to build the substantial partnerships needed to fully dominate the innings.

With the innings in need of fresh momentum, all-rounder Hussain stepped forward. Playing positively and with real intent, he injected much-needed energy into the middle order, producing an excellent 49 that lifted the scoring rate and helped Frenford reach a competitive 200 from their reduced allocation of 32 overs.

If Hussain had changed the game with the bat, he wasted little time doing the same with the ball.

Opening the bowling, Hussain produced a superb spell of fast bowling, removing three of the visitors' top-order batsmen in an outstanding six-over spell that returned figures of 3 wickets for just 13 runs. His early breakthroughs immediately swung the momentum firmly in Frenford's favour.

Supported by disciplined and economical bowling from the rest of the attack, the pressure continued to build before Bhavymeet Singh took centre stage.

Introduced during the middle overs, Bhavymeet produced one of the bowling performances of the weekend, ripping through the middle and lower order to finish with outstanding figures of 5 wickets for just 17 runs from 5.5 overs. His accuracy, variation and attacking mindset ensured any hopes of a successful chase quickly disappeared.

The victory secures another important set of points on Matchday Two and continues an encouraging start to the U16s' TB Matchplay Trophy campaign.

Attention now turns to Matchday Three, where Frenford will host Oakfield Parkonians CC at Frenford HQ on Sunday 5th July, with a 1:00pm start.

U12 Brian Taylor Cup XI Book Quarter Final Spot

Frenford's U12 Brian Taylor Cup XI continued their outstanding cup campaign by overcoming Springfield CC to secure a place in the Quarter Finals of Essex's most prestigious junior competition.

Hosting Springfield at Frenford HQ in a highly anticipated Last 16 encounter, captain Lekh and his side were asked to field first after the visitors won the toss.

Bilal opened the bowling with an excellent spell, immediately asking questions of the Springfield top order. Although his disciplined opening burst didn't quite bring the early breakthroughs it deserved, it laid the foundations for what became another mature bowling performance from the entire side.

As has become the hallmark of this U12 team throughout the competition, the boys remained patient and never allowed the game to drift away from them. Captain Lekh managed his bowlers, rotating the attack and ensuring everyone played their part as wickets began to fall during the second half of the innings.

The disciplined approach eventually restricted Springfield to 151 from their 30 overs, leaving Frenford with a challenging but achievable target.

Our reply began cautiously, with the opening pair feeling the importance of the game, building a platform rather than chasing quick runs.

Leading from the front once again, captain Lekh continued his remarkable run of form by registering yet another half-century, further underlining why he has become one of the standout performers in this year's Brian Taylor Cup competition.

As wickets fell around him, Vihaan produced a composed and valuable innings, providing the support required to keep the chase moving in the right direction. Together they absorbed the pressure, built crucial partnerships and ensured Frenford remained firmly in control of the contest.

The victory sends Frenford safely into the Quarter Finals, keeping alive the dream of lifting one of Essex junior cricket's most prestigious trophies.

The reward for another outstanding performance is a mouthwatering Quarter Final tie away to Wanstead & Snaresbrook CC at Overton Drive on Sunday 12th July. Start time will be confirmed in due course.
