It was a frustrating weekend for Frenford’s senior section, with the weather once again having the final say. Four of our five senior fixtures fell victim to the conditions, with points ultimately shared and, most disappointingly, the result bringing the 2nd XI’s promotion charge to an end.

While that will understandably sting, there is still plenty to play for.

The 3rd XI remain firmly in the hunt and, with one final weekend remaining, are effectively playing for the league championship. The 4th and 5th XIs remain unaffected by the weekend’s washout, with their respective campaigns continuing into the final round.

That left the 1st XI as the solitary senior side able to take to the field, making the trip to Walthamstow for their latest league fixture.

Captain Mo’ won the toss and elected to bat, sending another relatively young Frenford side out to set a target. With both Ayaan and Hussain retaining their places following last week’s call-ups, the blend of youth and senior experience continues to be a feature of the 1st XI at this stage of the season.

On a tricky day for batting, it was the more experienced heads who once again stood up. Ejaz played an important innings of 65, while Captain Mo’ anchored the innings with an unbeaten 45, helping Frenford post a competitive total in difficult conditions.

Unfortunately, it wasn't quite enough on the day.

Pratik continued to find wickets and there were a few more breakthroughs for Frenford, but with the weather intervening once again, the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method came into play. Walthamstow were handed a revised target and ultimately eased home to take the points.

Not the result Frenford were looking for, but perhaps more importantly, another opportunity for some of our younger players to gain valuable senior cricket experience alongside the established members of the squad.

And now, as we always say at Frenford…

With this coming weekend marking the final round of all our summer campaigns, there is still plenty on the line. The 3rd XI have a championship to chase, while across the senior section there is one final opportunity to finish the summer strongly, put in performances to be proud of and represent the club in the right way.
