From Pratik Bhalerao's remarkable eight-wicket haul on the Essex coast to another commanding victory for the 3rd XI and more encouraging signs from our developing 4th and 5th XIs, it was another action-packed weekend for Frenford Cricket Club's senior sides.

While results were mixed across the club, the common themes remained the same: resilience, development and a collective determination to continue moving forward.

1st XI – Pratik's Eight-for Inspires Coastal Victory

Captain Mo' Amin led the 1st XI on the long trip to Leigh-on-Sea CC, and after winning the toss elected to bat first on what appeared to be a tricky surface.

With wickets falling regularly and several batters unable to convert promising starts, it felt like a bold decision as Frenford battled their way to 161. However, as is so often the case in cricket, a pitch can only truly be judged once both sides have had their turn.

What followed was one of the bowling performances of the season.

Pratik Bhalerao tore through the Leigh batting line-up with a sensational eight-wicket haul, supported by disciplined fielding and excellent support from the rest of the attack as the hosts were dismissed for just 73.

It was an outstanding away victory and another reminder that on difficult wickets, patience and discipline often prove decisive.

2nd XI – Loughton Prove Too Strong at HQ

Haroon Zakria's 2nd XI welcomed Loughton CC to Frenford HQ and, after winning the toss, elected to field first on a classic home track offering something for the bowlers.

The day couldn't have started better, with Uwais Molvi removing the opener just two balls into the innings. Unfortunately, Frenford were unable to capitalise on the early breakthrough as Loughton's number three and middle order gradually wrestled control of the contest.

Adnan Choudhry once again led the bowling effort superbly, claiming four wickets, but the visitors eventually posted a challenging 275.

In reply, Haroon anchored the innings with a composed 52, receiving useful support from Mubashir Zakria and Umer Imtiaz. Despite some resistance from the lower order, Frenford never quite found the momentum required and ultimately fell short.

A disappointing result, but one that offers valuable lessons as the season enters its final stages.

3rd XI – Derby Day Delight for Waqqas' Team

Some victories are sweeter than others.

Travelling to local rivals Ilford CC, Captain Waqqas Naqvi won the toss and, trusting both his bowlers and the conditions, elected to field first on a suspect wicket.

The decision proved inspired.

Young Adam Chaudhary produced an excellent four-wicket haul, while Saif-Ali Zahoor and the evergreen Vishal Patil provided outstanding support. Combined with an energetic and disciplined fielding display, Frenford restricted their neighbours to a manageable total.

With the bat, Fiaz Naqvi provided the ideal platform before Zulfi Hussain took centre stage. His aggressive and authoritative 78 put the game beyond doubt, while Khuram Dar provided valuable support as Frenford cruised to victory with 12 overs to spare.

A comprehensive performance and, perhaps most satisfyingly, local bragging rights secured for another year.

4th XI – Narrow Defeat, Plenty of Positives

In Robert Rollins' absence, Fiaz Naqvi stepped in to captain the young 4th XI.

Having lost the toss, Frenford were asked to field first on what looked an excellent batting wicket. Despite the conditions, the young attack performed admirably, restricting the visitors through disciplined bowling.

Ayaan Azam marked his return from injury with an excellent four-wicket haul, while Armaan Qaisar continued his impressive season with two wickets. Ibrahim Mir once again demonstrated his value to the side with a miserly spell that helped maintain pressure throughout the innings.

Chasing the target, Rome Bopara continued his fine run of form with a composed 53, while Hamdaan Khan and Owais Zahoor both made encouraging starts. Unfortunately, with wickets falling regularly and nobody able to convert their starts into a match-winning innings, Frenford fell agonisingly short by just four runs.

Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives to celebrate, including another assured all-round contribution from young wicketkeeper Jasmine Asmal.

For this talented young side, it is often the narrow defeats that provide the greatest learning opportunities.

5th XI – Bhavraj Shines in Another Encouraging Display

Razi Siddiqui's youthful 5th XI once again demonstrated why the future of Frenford Cricket Club remains in safe hands.

Hosting Oakfield Parkonians CC, Frenford ultimately fell just 11 runs short, but the scorebook doesn't fully capture the progress being made by this exciting group.

The standout performer was U13 Bhavraj Sohal, who took the new ball and produced a superb spell of 4-24 from his eight overs. Bowling against experienced senior opposition, Bhavraj showed composure and control well beyond his years.

With the bat, the side continues to learn the nuances of senior, longer-format cricket. Building innings, understanding game situations and constructing competitive totals are all skills that develop over time, and every fixture continues to provide invaluable experience.

The talent within this group is undeniable, and under Razi's guidance, there is every reason to believe many of these players will flourish in the years ahead.

It was another weekend that perfectly encapsulated life at Frenford Cricket Club.

There were standout individual performances, hard-fought victories, lessons learned and more evidence that the club's development pathway continues to produce players capable of thriving at every level of the game.

From Pratik's unforgettable eight-for and Zulfi's commanding innings against Ilford, to Bhavraj's emergence with the ball and the continued growth of our younger senior sides, there is plenty to be excited about as the season approaches its conclusion.
