From a place in the Dukes Essex League Plate Semi-Finals to battling league performances and another impressive victory for the Senior Kestrels under new captain Uswa Syed, it was another action-packed weekend for Frenford Cricket Club.
Across the club, our captains reflect on their teams' performances, celebrating standout individual displays, recognising areas for improvement and highlighting the continued development of players throughout every section of the club.
1st XI – Mo' Amin (Captain)
It proved to be a demanding but ultimately encouraging weekend for the 1st XI, with two very different contests producing valuable league points and, more importantly, a place in the Dukes Essex League Plate Semi-Finals.
Saturday's league fixture against Walthamstow saw us lose the toss and spend much of the afternoon in the field. Credit has to go to former Frenford player Jamal, who enjoyed a little fortune along the way before carrying his bat magnificently for an unbeaten 118, guiding the visitors to a competitive total.
Despite that, our bowlers continued to work tirelessly. S. Hasnain Shah maintained his excellent recent form by adding more wickets to an impressive season's tally, while Fazal Rehman once again demonstrated why he has become one of the division's most economical bowlers, keeping the pressure on throughout the innings.
Our reply never quite gathered the momentum we needed. Hasnain Akram provided another positive start at the top of the order, but with wickets falling at regular intervals it became increasingly difficult to build a substantial partnership. I was pleased to contribute 49 runs before Ejaz Khan and Muhammad Rahim showed great determination to bat out the closing stages, ensuring we secured a hard-earned losing draw and valuable league points.
Sunday's Dukes Essex League Plate Quarter Final against Woodford Green was a completely different contest and exactly the response we were looking for.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, we suffered the early loss of Hasnain, but what followed was some outstanding batting. Danial Mahmood and Abdullah Shahzad completely took control of the innings, both producing magnificent centuries as we posted an imposing 354.
Woodford Green deserve enormous credit for the way they fought back, with two of their own batsmen also reaching centuries to keep the chase alive deep into the innings. However, when the pressure was greatest, Pratik Bhalerao produced an excellent spell, while Fazal Rehman and Ejaz Khan again kept things tight to ensure we completed a deserved 29-run victory, booking our place in the Semi-Finals.
There are plenty of positives to take from both performances. The league campaign remains firmly in our own hands, while we're now just one win away from a cup final.

2nd XI – Haroon Zakria (Captain)
Saturday's trip to Buckhurst Hill proved to be a frustrating afternoon as we were unable to back up a disciplined bowling performance with the bat.
After winning the toss, we elected to field first, hoping to make early inroads into the Buckhurst Hill batting line-up. Although we couldn't quite find the breakthroughs we wanted early on, Mubashir "Bash" Zakria, Adam Chaudhary and Zuhaib Shahid all bowled economically, ensuring the hosts were restricted to 259 from their 50 overs.
At the halfway stage, we genuinely felt the target was within our capabilities.
Unfortunately, our batting innings never found the momentum it needed. Several of our top order made promising starts but were unable to convert them into substantial scores. With wickets falling regularly, partnerships became difficult to establish and despite everyone's efforts, we couldn't build the innings required to chase the target down.
It was a disappointing result, but there are plenty of positives to take. We know we're capable of much better with the bat, and the challenge now is to convert those promising starts into match-winning contributions.
We'll learn from this one and go again next week.

3rd XI – Waqqas Naqvi (Captain)
The 3rd XI travelled to Billericay knowing we faced one of the stronger teams in the division.
Bowling first in extremely warm conditions, the team produced an excellent display for much of the innings. At 120/7 after 30 overs, we had the game firmly under control thanks to superb bowling from Vishal Patil (5-41) and S. Hussain Saeed (3-40).
Unfortunately, the final 20 overs didn't quite go our way. A few chances went down, appeals didn't fall in our favour and several fine margins allowed Billericay to recover to 205/9 from their 50 overs. Whilst still a good effort in the field, we felt we had created enough opportunities to restrict them further.
Chasing 206 against a quality attack was never going to be easy, but the boys showed tremendous character throughout. Zain Akram led the way with a battling half-century, while valuable contributions from Rohit Puthawala, Hussain Saeed and Zulfi Hussain kept us firmly in the contest.
Finishing on 203/8, we ultimately fell just two runs short of victory, earning a losing draw after a hard-fought afternoon.
On another day, a couple more moments go our way and the outcome is very different. We'll take the positives, continue working hard and look forward to welcoming Gidea Park next weekend.

4th XI – Fiaz Naqvi (Captain)
With Rob Rollins still recovering from injury, I had the privilege of leading the 4th XI against Old Parkonians on one of the hottest days of the season.
After losing the toss, we were asked to bat first. Unfortunately, despite the talent within this young side, our batting performance never really gathered momentum. We struggled to build partnerships and lacked the intensity we've shown in recent weeks.
The standout innings came from Rome Bopara, whose unbeaten 55 provided the backbone of the innings, helping us post 179 from our 50 overs.
Following an honest discussion during the interval, the response in the field was outstanding.
Our opening bowlers set the tone before spin twins Armaan Qaisar and Ibraheem Abulkhairi bowled with excellent control, building pressure through disciplined spells. That pressure allowed Ayaan Azam to strike late in the innings with three important wickets, giving us genuine belief we could still force a result.
Despite our efforts, Old Parkonians reached the target with three wickets remaining.
Whilst the result was disappointing, there were plenty of positives to take from the second-half performance. The character shown in the field demonstrated exactly what this young group is capable of.

5th XI – Razi Siddiqui (Captain)
The 5th XI travelled to Oakfield Parkonians where, after losing the toss, we were asked to bat first on a difficult surface in extremely hot conditions.
As has become a regular feature this season, Harsh Patel led from the front, continuing his excellent form with another composed innings at the top of the order. It was also fantastic to welcome Sabeeh Abid back into Frenford colours for his first appearance of the season, while Imran Ali Khan produced an excellent 47, with Sabeeh adding a valuable 27.
Unfortunately, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals and we were eventually dismissed for 133.
The response with the ball, however, was outstanding.
To keep the opposition batting for almost 31 overs chasing a relatively modest total was testament to the commitment and fighting spirit shown by every player.
I was pleased to contribute with two wickets, but the bowling performance of the day belonged to Imran Ali Khan, whose superb spell of 3-17 from five overs gave us genuine belief throughout the innings.
The result wasn't what we wanted, but every week I become prouder of this young group of cricketers. Their attitude, work ethic and willingness to learn continue to impress me and those qualities will serve them well as they continue to develop.

Senior Kestrels 1st XI – Uswa Syed (Captain)
It was a special day for me personally, leading the Kestrels for the first time as captain, and I couldn't have asked for a better team performance.
After winning the toss, we elected to bat first and Fatima Imtiaz and Georgie gave us exactly the start we were looking for.
When Fatima departed, I was pleased to build another important partnership with Georgie before Mariam came in and helped maintain the momentum through the closing overs, allowing us to post an imposing 253 from our 35 overs.
Although the opposition openers batted positively, I was incredibly proud of the discipline shown by our young bowling attack.
Sana and Elina bowled with excellent control throughout the middle overs, while Roshi once again found a way to make the breakthrough, claiming two important wickets as we restricted the hosts to 174 and secured a convincing 79-run victory.
More than anything, I'm proud of the way every single player contributed to the win. Whether with the bat, ball or in the field, everyone played their part, and that's exactly the team spirit we want to continue building throughout the season.
It's a privilege to captain this talented group of players and we're already looking forward to the next challenge.
