Essex Competitions Update | The Business End of the Season

For the first time this season, all four of our Essex representative sides – U12s, U14s, U16s and U19s have been in action or are entering pivotal fixtures as we head towards the business end of the summer.

The strength of the Frenford pathway continues to shine, with our players competing across Essex's premier junior competitions and proudly representing the club with distinction.

U12s
Our U12s continue to write their own story in the Brian Taylor Cup, booking their place in the semi-finals with an impressive quarter-final victory away to local rivals Wanstead & Snaresbrook CC.

After a nervy start against a talented opening attack and an excellent first change bowler, Frenford recovered superbly to post 212 from their 30 overs. Vihaan once again anchored the innings with a composed yet dominant 62, while Zayyan provided excellent support with a valuable 27.

With temperatures soaring, the bowling duties were shared around, but our opening pair of Aadvik and Bilal once again set the tone. Their early pressure yielded wickets and forced an important run out as Frenford seized the early initiative.

Wanstead fought back well through the middle overs, but the introduction of spin proved decisive. Karan finished with four wickets, while Vivian's breakthroughs wrestled back control at key moments.

Special mention must go to Vikram behind the stumps. Spending much of the innings under the helmet, he kept impeccably, claiming two stumpings off the bowling of spin twins Bilal and Karan, whilst showing excellent organisation and leadership throughout.

The hosts were eventually dismissed for 157 in 25.5 overs, securing a memorable victory for our youngest Essex side.

Next up: Coggeshall CC away in the Brian Taylor Cup Semi-Final on Sunday 26th July.

U14s
Our U14 Falcons return to action this Friday with their final Sir Alastair Cook Cup group fixture away at Ekota Academy.

There is plenty on the line, with a convincing victory potentially enough to see the Falcons top their group heading into the knockout stages. The squad has developed nicely throughout the competition, and Friday presents another opportunity to showcase the depth of talent emerging from this age group.

U16s
The U16 Matchplay side produced one of the performances of the weekend against an emerging Newham CC side.

Knowing that a significant victory was required to claw back net run rate on group leaders Hornchurch CC, the boys delivered in style.

Openers Aradhya Mukerjee (100) and Ayaan Azam (103) laid the foundations with agressive centuries, before Taseen accelerated spectacularly with 72 from just 31 balls. Saif-Ali Zahoor then added the finishing touches with an unbeaten 87 as Frenford piled on the runs.

With the ball, Ibrahim Mir was outstanding. The young left armer bowled with tremendous control and consistency, returning figures of 5-21 and ensuring Newham never threatened the target.

All roads now lead to this Sunday's crunch encounter with Hornchurch CC, with top spot in the group and a place in the latter stages of the competition on the line.

U19s
Finally,to our U19 Ravi Bopara Cup side. One of the strongest groups we have fielded in recent years.

Captained by the returning Haroon Khan, the Falcons travelled to a strong Chingford CC side and immediately stamped their authority on proceedings. Hasnain Akram set the tone with a sensational 114 from just 58 balls, including 12 fours and 7 sixes, while Umair, beginning to rediscover his best form, contributed an assured unbeaten 46.

Their efforts helped Frenford post an imposing 219.

Defending the total, our spin trio of Armaan, Abdullah and Tuaheed – returning to the fold for this competition – applied the squeeze throughout, while Haroon produced a sharp and explosive spell to ensure Frenford secured a comfortable victory.

The attention now turns to NEO CC, who visit HQ this Thursday 16th July, with the Falcons looking to continue their impressive start to the campaign.

From the Brian Taylor Cup to the Ravi Bopara Cup, Frenford's Essex representative sides continue to compete, develop and succeed. The pathway is thriving, and with knockout cricket now on the horizon, there is still plenty of exciting cricket to come.
