INDOOR WEEKLY ROUND UP — EDITION 2

INDOOR WEEKLY ROUND UP — EDITION 2

David Pike

BIG HITS. TIGHT SPELLS. NARROW FINISHES. THE INDOOR SEASON GATHERS PACE.

Another busy week of indoor cricket saw more of our Falcons, Hawks and Kestrels take to the courts, with strong batting performances, tight bowling, narrow finishes and plenty of positive signs across the age groups.

From our youngest Falcons playing their first competitive indoor fixture through to the Senior Falcons making a maximum-points start, the winter programme is beginning to gather real momentum.

U9 FALCONS — A WINNING START

Saturday morning saw our U9 Falcons take the pitch for their first competitive indoor game of the season.

Tristan Yadav led the way with the bat, providing an excellent foundation for the first innings and giving the Falcons a strong platform to build from.

That was followed by an impressive all-round bowling performance, with wickets shared around the attack and contributions coming from throughout the team.

The Falcons ultimately came away with the win on net runs — a great start to their first indoor competition and an encouraging opening performance from this young group.

U11 HAWKS — RIGHT DOWN TO THE WIRE

Our U11 Hawks were next up, taking on Woodford Wells.

Winning the toss, the Hawks put Woodford Wells into bat before producing a promising first-innings performance of their own.

Ayaan and the Akram twins, Sultan and Shahzaid, all produced strong batting performances, following in the footsteps of their older brothers Zain and Hasnain and helping the Hawks set a competitive total.

Unfortunately, the second innings didn't quite go to plan.

Wickets proved difficult to come by despite some tight bowling, although Kayden provided an important breakthrough with a brace of wickets.

The game went right down to the wire, with Woodford Wells eventually edging home late in the tenth over.

A narrow defeat, but plenty of positives from another young Hawks group continuing to develop indoors.

U13 HAWKS — WINNING START

The U13 Hawks got their indoor season up and running with a good win against Fives & Heronians.

Winning the toss, our Hawks put the opposition into bat, with a sound top three setting the tone for their innings.

For Frenford, it was extras that ultimately topped the scoring — not necessarily the most conventional route to a competitive total, but every run counts indoors.

With the ball, the Hawks were much tighter than their opponents. While wickets weren't necessarily coming in abundance, disciplined bowling and sharp fielding consistently applied pressure.

Multiple run-outs helped to nullify the opposition attack and showed the value of keeping the pressure on every ball.

We also welcomed Sufiyan to Frenford, making his FCC debut after following his older brother to the club, who made the move to Frenford last year.

A winning start and a strong platform for the U13 Hawks’ indoor campaign.

U15 HAWKS — SPIN PRINCE STRIKES AGAIN

The U15 Hawks entered their latest indoor fixture with a young team, with many of the players stepping up from last season’s U13 Summer League title-winning group.

Facing Ekota, our Hawks were put into bat after the opposition won the toss.

Samee and Captain Avaneesh made a sound start, with Bhavraj providing further support to help Frenford post a total they could defend.

Then came another impressive spell from Zayan.

The “Spin Prince” has carried his excellent late-season summer form straight into the indoor campaign, taking three wickets to disrupt the Ekota run chase and swing the momentum back towards Frenford.

The Hawks held their nerve to secure a sound victory.

Another positive result for a young U15 group — and another indication that the players stepping up from last season’s U13 side are ready to make their mark at the next level.

U15 KESTRELS — SUMMER FORM CONTINUES

Monday night saw our U15 Kestrels begin their indoor campaign against Goresbrook CC.

After losing the toss, the Kestrels were asked to bat — and continued exactly where they left off during the summer.

Taiba led the way with an excellent unbeaten 54, supported brilliantly by Alishba with 29 not out. Sana added 25 and Ayra 26, with both retiring after their contributions.

It was a strong collective batting performance and gave the Kestrels an excellent total to defend.

With the ball, the pressure continued.

Tight bowling, wickets shared throughout the attack and strong fielding kept Goresbrook under pressure and ultimately secured a convincing opening victory.

A great start to the indoor season for the U15 Kestrels and another performance that shows this group has carried its summer momentum into the winter.

SENIOR FALCONS — MAXIMUM POINTS TO OPEN

Saturday morning saw our Senior Falcons begin their indoor campaign against Loughton CC.

Losing the toss, Frenford were asked to bat, with Abdullah providing a solid start before Captain Aadil added valuable support further down the order.

But the headline belonged to Mo’ Rahim.

Continuing the big-hitting form he showed towards the end of the summer, Mo’ produced an outstanding unbeaten 72 from just 32 balls to drive the Falcons towards a formidable total of 126.

With 126 on the board, Loughton needed a strong response — and initially their approach put the Falcons under pressure.

A good strategy from the opposition created early momentum, but Frenford eventually found the breakthroughs they needed, with Mo’ playing the key role in stifling the Loughton charge.

The supporting bowlers then chipped in with valuable wickets as the pressure mounted, and Loughton were eventually bowled out for 100 in 10.2 overs.

The standout performance was undoubtedly Mo’ Rahim: 72 not out from 32 balls with the bat, followed by an exceptional 3 wickets for just 8 runs from 2.2 overs.

Maximum points and an excellent start to the indoor season for the Senior Falcons.

THE WINTER IS STARTING TO TAKE SHAPE

From the U9 Falcons experiencing their first taste of competitive indoor cricket to the Senior Falcons opening with maximum points, there have been plenty of positives across another busy week.

The Kestrels have now joined the indoor campaign, while our Hawks and Falcons continue to build momentum across their respective leagues.

And with plenty more cricket still to come, the indoor season is only just getting started.
