FRENFORD INDOOR WEEKLY ROUND UP — EDITION 6

FRENFORD INDOOR WEEKLY ROUND UP — EDITION 6

David Pike

FRIDAY NIGHT WINS. MONDAY NIGHT DOMINANCE. THE INDOOR SEASON GATHERS MORE PACE.

Another busy week of indoor cricket brought action across our junior and senior sections, starting with Friday night fixtures before a packed Saturday and Sunday schedule. There were strong team performances, young players making their mark and individual moments worth remembering — including one extraordinary spell from our U9 Hawks.

FRIDAY 30 OCTOBER

U11 HAWKS - A CLOSE CONTEST AGAINST BUCKHURST HILL

Our U11 Hawks came up against a strong Buckhurst Hill side in a closely contested game. Despite an excellent batting effort from the young Frenford team, the result unfortunately went the visitors’ way.

Faris contributed a valuable 28, with Ikhlas adding a further 33 as the Hawks posted a strong total of 142. With the ball, however, our youngsters struggled to seize the initiative, allowing Buckhurst Hill to edge home with just two balls remaining.

A narrow defeat, but an outstanding team performance from a very young side. Plenty to be proud of, and plenty to build on. Well done, Hawks.

SATURDAY 31 OCTOBER

U9 FALCONS - MAXIMUM POINTS

A positive Saturday morning for our U9 Falcons, who secured a good win against Aztecs to take the victory and maximum points.

Another encouraging step for this young group as their indoor season continues to gather momentum.

U9 HAWKS - A STRONG TEAM PERFORMANCE

Our U9 Hawks faced Hainault & Fairlop, newcomers to the indoor league, and delivered a strong performance from start to finish.

Vishnu led the way with a good first-innings knock, well supported by Faris, giving the team an excellent foundation. With the ball, Sufiyaan and Yahya both made their mark, taking two wickets apiece as the Hawks completed a convincing win.

An impressive performance from this emerging team, with contributions across both innings and plenty of promise for the weeks ahead.

MONDAY 2 NOVEMBER

U15 KESTRELS - A DERBY WIN BUILT ON TEAMWORK

Our U15 Kestrels rounded off the weekend’s action with a good win against local neighbours Wanstead.

Winning the toss, Captain Stefi backed her batters to set a strong foundation — and they delivered. Aaminah finished unbeaten on 36, Taiba added 26 and Sana contributed 21, helping Frenford post a target of 144.

With the ball, the Kestrels were disciplined across the board. Sana, Krisha and Georgie kept Wanstead under pressure, while dynamic fielding and sharp awareness created further opportunities, including crucial run-outs.

It was a complete team performance: confident batting, tight bowling and fielding that made every run hard-earned. A deserved victory for the Kestrels and a great example of the energy and teamwork this group continues to bring to the indoor season.

THE WEEK IN PERSPECTIVE

There was plenty of positive news across the junior section this week. The U9 Falcons secured maximum points, the U9 Hawks delivered a convincing win, and the U15 Kestrels finished with a strong derby performance.

For our U11 Hawks, the narrow defeat to Buckhurst Hill was a reminder of just how fine the margins can be indoors. Despite the result, their batting effort and collective performance were encouraging signs from a young team.

And then there was Sufiyaan’s remarkable four wickets in four balls — the sort of performance that makes you stop and take notice.

Indoor cricket continues to offer a different challenge every week. The margins are tight, the tempo is relentless and the value of teamwork is never more apparent.

Keep learning. Keep competing. Keep moving forward.
