It was a difficult weekend for Frenford indoors, with three fixtures played and three defeats suffered. There were narrow margins, tough introductions and lessons to take forward. But Monday night brought a change in fortunes as our U13 Kestrels delivered a powerful response against Buckhurst Hill, inspired by a captain's innings to remember.
U13s Falcons — FINAL-BALL HEARTBREAK
The U13s endured a frustratingly close contest against Buckhurst Hill, with the outcome decided on the final delivery. Opening pair **Vikram and Vihaan** both retired after laying a strong foundation with the bat, giving Frenford a platform from which to compete.
Despite their efforts, the boys narrowly fell short in a finish that could hardly have been tighter. A tough one to take, but the performance showed the importance of competing until the very last ball.
U15 RAPTORS — A TOUGH INTRODUCTION
The U15 Raptors began their campaign in the Bopara Division against a strong Barking side, but had an immediate obstacle to overcome before the game had even started.
A last-minute injury withdrawal left Frenford playing one short, making an already demanding opening fixture that much tougher. It was a difficult introduction to the division, but these are precisely the challenges that help a young team learn, adapt and grow together.
There is plenty of cricket still to come, and the Raptors will be looking to build from the experience.
SENIOR HAWKS — A LOW-SCORING BATTLE
Saturday began with the Senior Hawks taking on South Loughton in a low-scoring indoor encounter.
South Loughton posted 101/6, leaving Frenford needing 102 for victory. The Hawks battled through their innings but were unable to bridge the gap, finishing on 84/6 and falling 17 runs short.
Not the result they wanted, but the indoor season is still young. The focus now turns to finding the consistency needed to turn competitive spells and hard-fought innings into points on the board.
U13 KESTRELS — A CAPTAIN'S INNINGS FOR THE AGES
Monday night brought a different story, as the U13 Kestrels faced Buckhurst Hill in a close contest of their own — and this time, Frenford had plenty to celebrate.
Captain Aairah led from the front with an exhilarating 84 runs from just 46 balls, an innings packed with boundaries, intent and serious power. Well supported by Hana, Aairah returned to the crease as wickets fell and continued to take the game to the opposition.
Manager Shazir summed up the performance perfectly:
“A whirlwind of boundaries and lethal power hitting.”
And the Kestrels made sure the job wasn't done with the bat alone. Their bowling in the second innings was disciplined and effective, containing the Buckhurst Hill threat and securing maximum points.
A commanding individual performance, backed by a collective effort — exactly the sort of response that can build momentum through the winter.
THE RESPONSE STARTS NOW
Three weekend defeats, followed by a Kestrels performance full of character and quality. Indoor cricket can turn quickly, and this week's action was a reminder that every innings, every over and every decision matters.
For the U13s and U15 Raptors, the challenge is to take the lessons forward. For the Senior Hawks, it's about regrouping and finding their rhythm. And for the Kestrels, Aairah's exceptional innings and the team's all-round performance provide a result to build on.
Reset. Regroup. Go again.
The winter is starting to take shape.
