Falcons Continue to Soar as U16s Stay Unbeaten and U12s Eye Quarter-Final Glory

David Pike7 Jul - 06:59

Taseen's magnificent century inspires another Trevor Bailey Matchplay victory as the U12s prepare for a huge Brian Taylor Cup Quarter Final.

Frenford's flagship Junior representative sides continue to make their mark across Essex, with the U16 Trevor Bailey Matchplay XI maintaining their unbeaten start to the competition, while the U12 Brian Taylor Cup XI prepare for one of the biggest fixtures of their season this weekend.

U16 Trevor Bailey Matchplay Trophy

The Falcons welcomed Oakfield Parkonians CC to HQ knowing another victory would keep their impressive start to the Trevor Bailey Matchplay campaign firmly on track.

Winning the toss, captain Adam Chaudhary elected to bat first on an excellent batting surface. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals throughout the innings, Frenford always looked in control thanks to a superb anchoring innings from Taseen Ansari.

Batting with maturity beyond his years, Taseen paced his innings perfectly, compiling a magnificent 116 from just 106 deliveries. As wickets fell around him, he adapted to every phase of the innings, accelerating when required and absorbing pressure when the visitors found momentum. It was an outstanding display of controlled strokeplay and intelligent batting.

Captain Adam, Hussain and Ibraheem all made valuable contributions, building important partnerships with Taseen and helping wear down an quality Oakfield bowling attack before increasing the scoring rate in the closing overs to post a highly competitive total.

Oakfield responded positively, putting together an excellent opening partnership and threatening to make a real contest of the chase.

Recognising that the pitch offered more assistance to slower bowling than outright pace, Frenford's attack adapted brilliantly. Captain Adam and Saif-Ali Zahoor introduced spin immediately after the powerplay, drying up the boundaries and steadily building scoreboard pressure.

With the required rate climbing, Ibrahim Mir and Ibraheem Abulkhari seized control of the contest. The pair shared six wickets between them, claiming three apiece as the visitors' resistance gradually faded and Frenford closed out another excellent victory.

It was another important learning experience for a talented young squad who continue to develop with every outing. Attention now turns to another challenging away fixture at Newham this weekend before what promises to be a decisive showdown away at Hornchurch the following Sunday.

Brian Taylor Cup Quarter Final Awaits

While the U16s continue their unbeaten Trevor Bailey campaign, attention also turns to the U12 Brian Taylor Cup XI, who face one of the biggest matches of their season this Sunday.

The young Falcons travel to Overton Drive to face Wanstead & Snaresbrook CC in the Quarter Finals of Essex's most prestigious U12 competition.

After an impressive cup run built on disciplined cricket, resilience and outstanding teamwork, the squad now stand just one victory away from a place in Finals Day.

Everyone at Frenford Cricket Club wishes both representative squads the very best this weekend as they continue flying the Falcons flag across Essex.
